How We DoSD with Reyna Pizarro: 5 Great Coffee Shops for Working Remotely

If you’re gonna work remotely, you might as well do it somewhere good.

We asked a local to give us a category and their five favorite picks. Reyna chose coffee shops for working remotely — which honestly feels like a personality trait at this point.

Born in Tijuana and raised in the States, Reyna Pizarro brings a perspective shaped by the energy of the border region and a deep love for San Diego’s local scene. With a background in marketing, she turned her passion for social media into a platform for highlighting small businesses, restaurants, and the culture that makes this city what it is.

She’s the kind of person who can find a hidden gem before it blows up — and as someone who works remotely and travels often, she knows exactly what makes a coffee shop actually work-friendly (not just aesthetic).

Point being: she’s done the trial and error so you don’t have to.

Because not every coffee shop is built for getting things done. Some are too loud, some have nowhere to plug in, and some just aren’t worth camping out in for a few hours.

So we asked someone who knows.

THE LOCAL'S LIST is our weekly series where we tap locals to share their favorite spots, personal recs, and the kind of tips you usually only get from a friend.

Every Friday, new person, new subject, maybe a new favorite spot?

From tucked-away patios to North Park staples, these are the spots Reyna keeps coming back to when she needs to lock in and get some work done.

Here are five of Reyna’s favorites:

Mixed Grounds @ AMP 30

Location: North Park

“There’s so much space here, which is a game changer. The wifi is solid, the coffee is really good, and they’ve got snacky options if you need a quick break. Plus, it’s right across from The Friendly and other food spots if you end up staying longer than planned.”

Moniker Outpost

Location: North Park

“My favorite place to work from. The baristas are always so kind, which honestly makes a difference when you’re there for hours. Food and drinks are amazing, and there are outlets throughout so you’re not fighting for a plug.”

Garden Coffee

Location: Old Town

“I love this spot when I want something peaceful. You get that fresh outdoor feel, but it’s tucked away enough that you don’t deal with traffic or noise. Everyone is so kind, and it’s just a really calm place to focus.”

Provecho Coffee

Location: Barrio Logan

“One of my favorite coffee shops in San Diego, hands down. The coffee is always incredible, and the owners are just the best. The space is pretty big with indoor and outdoor seating, and I’m also a sucker for good branding — they do it really well here.”

Coffee & Tea Collective

Location: North Park

“I looove their matcha and seasonal drinks. It’s usually pretty quiet, which is perfect when I really need to focus and get work done.”
