You’re in luck. From art to science to history, these spots drop the admission fee on certain days — and we’ve listed them all for you. Free, fun, and full of stuff to nerd out on.

Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

  • Free Second Sunday of every month (9/14).
  • Free Third Thursday of every month (9/18).

  • Admission is always FREE for Military, people 25 and under, visitors with disabilities, SNAP/EBT cardholders, and Members. Plus, discounts are available for San Diego County/ Tijuana Residents, Students/Teachers, and Older Adults 55+.

  • Discover & Go also offers free general admission for California library cardholders.

San Diego Chinese Historical Museum 

  • Free on the second Sunday of each month (9/14)
  • Get $2 off general admission on paid days for seniors (65+) and groups of 10+
  • Children under 12 are always free

Women's Museum of California

  • On the first Saturday of every month (9/6), enjoy free admission – more info here

Oceanside Museum of Art

  • First Friday events (starting at 5:00 pm) of every month are free (9/5) from 5pm-8pm
  • First Sunday events of every month are free (9/7) from 11am-5pm – see upcoming events here
  • Always free for the Military, Students, and Children.

Fleet Science Center 

  • Fleet's Residents’ Free Day is on the first Tuesday of each month (9/2). San Diego County residents, local college students, and active-duty military get free admission to the exhibit galleries.

San Diego Natural History Museum 

  • Free for San Diego residents every first Tuesday (9/2), thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special. *(NOT VALID FOR FILMS)* 
  • Children under 2 are free on paid days.
  • Free admission for K-12 teachers on paid days. 

  • Free on your Birthday in 2025! On the occasion of our 150th birthday in 2024, visitors will receive free, one-time admission during the month of their birthday. This offer is available in person only during the 2024 calendar year.
  • NAT offers "Science is for everyone" free admission programs, including Museums for All, Resident Free Days, the summer reading program through San Diego Public Library, and more. Learn here for more.

San Diego Model Railroad Museum

  • Free for San Diego residents every first Tuesday (9/2), thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special.
  • Child (ages 12 and under): FREE with legal adult supervision and paid admission.

Comic-Con Museum

  • Free for San Diego residents every second Tuesday (9/9), thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special, except for November + December.*

San Diego Air & Space Museum

  • Free for San Diego residents every second Tuesday (9/9), thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special, except December. *(NOT VALID FOR SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS)*
  • Always free admission for Active Duty Military and Children 2 and Under.

The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park

  • Free for San Diego residents every second Tuesday (9/9) thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special.
  • Always free admission for Active Duty Military + families and Children 12 and Under.

San Diego Museum of Art 

  • The San Diego Museum of Art is now offering free general admission and arts programming to all visitors on the second Thursday of every month (9/11).

  • Free for San Diego residents every third Tuesday (9/16) thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special. *(NOT VALID FOR SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS)*
  • Military and College inquire at the admission desk for free admission.
  • Admission to the May S. Marcy Sculpture Court and Garden is free.
  • Free to Youth 17 and Under.

Japanese Friendship Garden

  • Free for San Diego residents every third Tuesday (9/16) thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special.

  • Children 6 or Younger are free.

Mingei International Museum

  • Free for San Diego residents every third Tuesday (9/16) thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special.
  • Always free for Active Duty Military + Families, Children 18 and under + EBT Card Holders.
  • The Commons Level is free for all, always. 

San Diego Automotive Museum

  • Free for San Diego residents every fourth Tuesday (9/23) thanks to Balboa Park's Resident Free Day special.

TIMKEN MUSEUM OF ART

  • The Timken is the only art museum in Balboa Park with free admission!

  • Admission is always free.

Visions Museum of Textile Art

  • Admission is free. Donations are welcomed.

Bonita Museum & Cultural Center

  • The museum is donation-based. You can pay as much, or as little, as you choose.

Nautical History Gallery & Museum

  • Admission is free. Donations are welcome.

Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego

  • Admission is always free | Open Thursday - Sunday from 12-5 pm

Coronado Historical Association

  • Always free!


Discover & Go Pass


Visit San Diego attractions for FREE with the San Diego Public Library's Discover & Go program. The program offers family day passes to several of San Diego's biggest attractions, including the New Children's Museum, Museum of Us, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Children's Discovery Museum, and Skateworld! Passes can be reserved online, in person, or over the phone with a valid San Diego Public Library card.
